Charles Bien is Managing Partner of Signium Greater China, leading Greater China’s industrial search practice. Prior to Signium Greater China, Charles assumed a similar role at another global executive firm. He was Head of Human Resources at Caterpillar China and Yum! Brands, Greater China and before that, Principal Consultant at Hay Management Consultants Asia.

An experienced consultant as well as practitioner, Charles has accumulated close to 30 years of experience in executive search, corporate HR leadership, people and organization effectiveness consulting, as well as strategy consulting. He is experienced in all facets of people and organization management in particular executive recruitment, compensation and benefits, leadership assessment and development, organization development, as well as China market entry and start-up. He is highly experienced in managing and operating in China, having spent time in more than 30 cities. He was also based in Shanghai for three years. With a home base in Hong Kong, Charles spends over half of his time at Signium’s mainland China offices, travelling to mainland China almost weekly.

In addition to leading senior search assignments in the industrial and manufacturing sectors, Charles is also active in the food, retail and professional services sectors. Functionally, Charles focuses on top level HR and finance positions across all sectors. An active member of the management consulting and executive search communities, Charles is the Past President of Institute of Management Consultants Hong Kong, and a Board Member and Asia Pacific Honorary Treasurer of the Association of Executive Search Consultants – the worldwide professional association of retained executive search firms.

A Hong Kong born Chinese executive with a diverse international background, Charles has studied and worked in Hong Kong, mainland China, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. He obtained his master’s degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University, his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and has undertaken doctoral studies at the London School of Economics. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese and Shanghainese dialects, as well as English. Apart from work, Charles is a skilled guitarist of the classical style, and an active tennis player.
