Welcome to our March issue of Market Movers which is a summary of recent Executive and Leadership Appointments.

Applus+ Automotive, one of the world's leading testing, inspection and certification companies, has appointed Hugh O’Brien as Head of Human Resources. Hugh previously held the role of Head of Human Resources with Applegreen Plc and held several senior HR roles within Ireland prior to that.

Aurivo Cooperative Society has made two senior appointments:

  • Eithne Niland as Group CFO. Niland joined Aurivo in 2005 and most recently worked as Group Financial Controller. She previously held roles within Grafton Group plc and Deloitte.
  • Etienne Gerard as Head of Group Operations. Gerard has been with the company since 2005, most recently as Operations Manager.  Prior to this, he worked with National Dairies and Kerry Group.

Bartra Capital the Property development group, has appointed Nigel McGuire at its Chief Brand Officer. McGuire is a former senior executive at Circle-K Europe and previously served as Director of Property and Supply Chain at McDonalds.

Bord Bia has announced the appointment of Deirdre Ryan as their new Director of the Origin Green & Quality Assurance programmes. She joins from Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland where she was Head of Corporate Social Responsibility since 2016.

Brewin Dolphin Ireland has announced the appointment of Eddie Clarke as its new Irish CEO and member of its board. He joined in November 2019 as Director and was previously Head of Wealth & Investment with Investec Ireland.

Byrne Wallace has appointed Neil O’Keeffe as Partner in its Banking and Financial Services Practice. Prior to this, O’Keeffe worked with LK Shields for 13 years and with McCann Fitzgerald, prior to this.

CIT Cork Institute of Technology has appointed Michael Loftus as Head of External Affairs. Loftus has worked with CIT for 20 years, most recently as Head Faculty of Engineering & Science.

Coupa Software has appointed Barbara Gilleran as Director, Global Learning and Development. Prior to this she held the roles of Head of Learning and Development with Quantcast and EMEA Customer Success Manager with LinkedIn.

Europcar Mobility Group has appointed Paul McNeice as Customer Experience and Innovation Director. McNeice has worked with the group since 2018, and was previously Director of Sales. Prior to this, he worked with Coca Cola Bottling and Coca Cola Enterprises for 17 years.

Focus Capital Partners has appointed Jack O’Keeffe as Director. O’Keeffe was previously Director Corporate Finance at Cantor Fitzgerald and Head of Corporate Finance at Merrion Capital prior to this.

Google has appointed Nick Leeder as Head of Google Ireland. Leeder has worked with Google since 2011, starting as Managing Director – Google Australia & New Zealand. He became Managing Director for France before moving to Dublin in 2017 to take over as Vice President, EMEA Large Customer Sales.

Grant Thornton has announced the appointment of Vic Angley as new partner for the Limerick Tax Practice. He joins the Limerick Tax Practice having worked in both Big Four and large national tax practices over the past twenty years.

Hastings Hotels – Northern Ireland has appointed Peter Gibson as Finance Director. Prior to this, he was Chief Financial Officer of IWG UK for 8 years and was UK Group Financial Controller at Regus, prior to this.

HSBC has appointed Noel Quinn as Group Chief Executive. Quinn was appointed Interim Group Chief Executive in August 2019 when he was also appointed as a Director of HSBC Holdings. He was previously Regional Head of Commercial Banking for Asia-Pacific, based in Hong Kong.

The Ireland Japan Association has appointed Raymond J. Hegarty as Chairperson. He has been a Council Member with IJA since 2009. He is currently CEO of Billion Dollar IP Strategy, a global consultancy and advisory firm, and previously held roles as Chief Intellectual Property Officer with Everseen and as Managing Director of Intellectual Ventures.

The Irish Blood Transfusion Board has appointed Orla O’Brien as Chief Executive Officer. O’Brien was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Laura Lynn Foundation and Group Chief Operations Officer at Children’s Hospital Group for 4 years prior to this.

The Irish Exporters Association has appointed David Carthy as President. He is currently Country Managing Partner with DLA Piper in Ireland and was previously a Partner with William Fry.

Irish Life Investment Managers has appointed Kathy Ryan as Head of Responsible Investment. Ryan joins from Aviva Investors where she was Senior ESG Product Strategist. She was also Executive Director of Global Green Investments for 6 years.

The Law Reform Commission has announced the appointment of former prosecutor Rebecca Coen as its new director of research. She joins from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions where she was a principal prosecutor.

Learnovate Centre, a research and innovation centre focused on EdTech and learning technologies, based in Trinity College Dublin, has appointed Nessa McEniff as Director. McEniff was previously Chief Operating Officer of Touch Press, and was Head of Product Management and Operations Manager at Independent News & Media, prior to this.

Maples & Calder LLP has announced the appointment of 3 new partners:

  • Aisling Burke has been appointed Of Counsel, Property. Burke has worked with the firm since 2016, and worked with A & L Goodbody for 8 years prior to this.
  • Ronan Cremin has been appointed Partner – Funds and Investment Management. Cremin has worked with the firm since 2013, and worked with LK Shields prior to this.
  • Niamh O’Shea has been appointed Partner – Funds & Investment Management. O’Shea has worked with the firm since 2011.

Mason Hayes & Curran has announced the appointment of Stephen Gillick to the Pensions Council, the body established in 2013 to advise ministers on pensions issues. He is currently Partner & Head of Pensions at Mason Hayes & Curran. He joined the firm in 2015 having previously worked at McCann Fitzgerald.

Matheson has announced a number of senior appointments:

  • David Jones has been appointed Partner in the firm’s corporate M&A team. He joined the firm last year from William Fry.
  • Kimberley Masuda has been appointed Partner commercial real estate. She has been with the firm for over three years, and previously worked as an Architect with RKC Architects.
  • Susanne McMenamin has been appointed Partner in the firm’s corporate M&A team. She joined the firm last year from William Fry where she was Partner.
  • Philip Tully has been appointed a Tax Partner. He has been with the firm for over ten years.

Musgrave Wholesale Partners has announced the appointment of Luke Hanlon as Chief Supply Chain Officer. Hanlon has worked with the company since 2003, most recently as Human Resources Director. Prior to this, he worked with Kerry Group.

Navi Group, a large pharmacy retail, buying and technology group, has appointed John O’Dwyer as Managing Director. Prior to this, he worked with AIB for 7 years, most recently as Director Corporate Development. Robinson was previously Group Corporate Development Manager for 4 years with Total Produce.

Nuritas, a biotech company, has appointed Nora Khalid as Chief Executive Officer. Khalid founded the company in 2014 and was its Chief Scientific Officer.

The Personal Injuries Assessment Board has appointed Rosalind Carroll as Chief Executive Officer. Carroll was previously Chief Executive Officer of the Residential Tenancies Board for 4 years. 

Philip Lee has appointed Thomas O’Malley as Real Estate Partner. O’Malley was previously Managing Partner at Tully Rinckey, and was Partner at McDowell Purcell prior to this.

Phorest, a cloud-based software management company, has appointed Sylvie McDermott as Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to her appointment, McDermott worked with Currency Fair and Bet Fair.

RSM Ireland has appointed Paddy Stapleton as Tax Partner. Stapleton has been with the company for 5 years, previously as International Tax Director. Prior to this, he worked with EY.

Savills Ireland has announced the appointment of Mark Reynolds as its new Managing Director with immediate effect. He has been Deputy Managing Director since March 2019 and has been with the firm for over 20 years.

Taxback International has appointed Nora Duggan as Senior Vice President of Revenue Operations. Most recently she was Commercial Director – Strategic Accounts with VisibleThread and held various senior marketing roles in Australia and Ireland prior to that.

Teleflex has appointed James Winters as Corporate VP of Manufacturing and Supply Chain. Winters joined Teleflex in 2018 and was previously Global Head of Manufacturing. Prior to this, he worked with DePuy for 20 years.

Tesco Ireland has appointed Cathal Deavy as Customer Director. Deavy was previously Managing Director of DV Eight and held several senior Marketing roles with Unilever prior to that.

Wilson Hartnell has appointed Jo Wood as Chief Strategy Officer. Wood worked as Strategy Director for MCCP for 3 years and also worked with DDFH & B and Ogilvy & Mather prior to this.

Xtremepush, the Irish global customer engagement, personalisation and data platform, headquartered in Dublin, has appointed Rob Pryce as Chief Revenue Officer. He most recently held CRO roles in Social Talent and with Bionic and previously worked in senior positions at global operators Microsoft and Quantcast.
